Long summer days bring a slower pace for families and more free time to seek new experiences! When you make your summer bucket list, make sure a visit to Round Rock, Texas is at the top! Round Rock, TX is one of the fastest-growing cities in one of the fastest-growing states. Located just north of Austin, there are few places more perfectly situated for family-friendly summer fun. But don’t just take our word for it. Have a look at what Round Rock has to offer in the list below.

Dive Into Summer at Kalahari Resort
Nothing screams summer like a waterpark, and there aren’t many waterparks as all-inclusive as Kalahari Resort. As the name suggests, this isn’t just a park where you can find tunneled water slides, lazy rivers, and basketball pools—though you most certainly can, and in abundance. You can also spend the night in one of its luxurious suites, enjoy world-class dining at one of its restaurants, and even relax at a 21+ swim-up bar like Kalahari’s unique indoor grotto.

Slide Into Home at Dell Diamond
Not too many cities can claim to have their own Minor League Baseball team. Since Minor League teams are based in smaller cities, there’s a tighter sense of community around the team. You can experience that for yourself by watching the Round Rock Express, Triple-A affiliate to the Texas Rangers, at their very own stadium, Dell Diamond. But baseball isn’t the only reason to visit. In the aptly titled Fun Zone, kids can enjoy inflatables, a 26-foot rock wall, a train-themed playground, and more!

Take a Stroll in Downtown Round Rock
If you’re looking for Round Rock’s downtown area, just look to the sky for the iconic water tower. In this cultural center, you’ll find quaint shops and crafted local dining. At Prete Plaza, the kids can beat the heat by hitting the splash pad, then the whole family can take in a free concert on Wednesday nights. Come July, Round Rock’s patriotic spirit will be on full display with its annual 4th of July parade.

Old Settlers Park: Fishing, Disc Golf, and So Much More
Though Round Rock has many parks, Old Settlers Park stands alone with its 645 acres of d\isc golf, cricket, softball, tennis, football fields, and much more. For the fishing fans, the park is home to Bright Lake, which carries bass, catfish, and perch. It’s no wonder Round Rock is known as the Sports Capital of Texas. But wait, there’s more! Remote-controlled airplane enthusiasts will be pleased to know the park has its very own take-off and landing strip.

Donuts the Size of Your Head at Round Rock Donuts
Songbirds are nice and all, but if you really want something to lure you out of bed in the morning, look no further than Round Rock Donuts. This purveyor of pastries has been serving the Round Rock area since 1926 and isn’t slowing down. If you’re feeling adventurous, we recommend trying their Texas Sized Donut, which comes in glazed, chocolate, or half-glazed and half-chocolate. As the name suggests, you’re going to need a coffee cauldron if you want to do any dipping with this behemoth.

Swing Big at Forest Creek Golf Club
If you need an excuse to get outside in the beautiful Texas weather, the golf courses in Round Rock are more than happy to oblige. One of our favorites is the Forest Creek Golf Club, a state-of-the-art par-72 course with an extensive practice facility and Player Grill. For the kids, the club even hosts the PGA Junior League, which includes weeks of practice sessions followed by a series of matches.

Get Yourself Something Nice at Round Rock Premium Outlets
There’s no better palate cleanser on a busy day of summer shenanigans than some good ol’ fashioned shopping. And any local will tell you there’s no better place to get in some serious shopping than the Round Rock Premium Outlets. It’s here you’ll find 125 name-brand outlets brought together by a series of magnificent courtyards. Mark your calendars for National Outlet Shopping Day in June. The outlets will be celebrating with discounts, giveaways, and activities for the kids!

Get the Scoop on the Buzzworthy Round Rock Honey
In recent years, consumers have become more interested in where their food comes from, and rightfully so. Buying local is not only a great way to make sure your food is minimally processed, but also to support the community. That brings us to Round Rock Honey, a local business whose product comes straight from the hive to your table. To deepen the relationships between business and consumer even further, they offer tours of their honey house and even beekeeping classes!

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World: The Great Outdoors Meets the Great Indoors
What’s a summer vacation without a trip to Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World? Before you tackle any camping trips, water sports, or outdoor activities of any kind, you’re going to need to stock up on clothing and supplies. The 120,000-square-foot store in Round Rock carries a mind-boggling amount of merchandise, as well as a museum, aquarium, and art gallery. While you’re there, grab lunch and bowl beneath the sea at Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl & Grill, a unique, nautical-themed bowling alley located inside the store!

Meet the Original “Round Rock”
Believe it or not, Round Rock isn’t just a pretty name. Way back in 1851, the first rumblings of a city began to emerge on the banks of Brushy Creek. In the middle of the creek, there was a round rock that marked a low point in the water perfect for crossing. This round rock was so pivotal to Native Americans and settlers that it was forever immortalized as the name of the town. These days, you can visit the original Round Rock and its nearby historical marker to pay homage to the city’s unique history.

A Summer Vacation Spot for the Whole Family
As you can probably tell, Round Rock is a bustling small town filled with summer fun. Whether you’re looking to spend a whole week or want a more bite-sized experience, Round Rock has you covered with a top-of-the-line golf club, all-inclusive water park, a modern baseball stadium, Texas Sized Donuts and much more. If you’re looking for a place to rest your head in between the fun, book a room at a local boutique like The Ruby or one of our cozy hotels!

With an endless supply of choices, deciding where to go when traveling can be a daunting task. Although we love a familiar latte from Starbucks and a shopping day at Target, we like to challenge ourselves to find unique locations in the cities we visit. So, before you pull into the nearest drive-thru or chain retailer, consider going off the beaten path and trying something new. We traversed through Round Rock and found six special spots that will immerse you in a land of mystique and adventure.

1. Piranha Records

Vinyl records are making a comeback! People are longing for a more tangible listening experience and a sense of nostalgia. Luckily, you can get this at Piranha Records off of Sam Bass and I-35 Frontage Rd. This local record shop is a blast from the past and has impeccable vinyl and vibes. The store is lined with rows of records, CDs, and musical merch. Additionally, they have lava lamps, incense sticks, t-shirts, and wall posters. It’s a must-visit spot for any music enthusiast.

2. Antique Gallery

If you’re on the hunt for collectibles, classics, and custom-made items, the Antique Gallery in Round Rock is the place to venture. Enjoy a serendipitous day of shopping and discover unexpected treasures. They have an extensive selection of glassware, jewelry, artwork, and western antique furniture from 100 quality antique dealers. Search for an uncommon gem in this vintage paradise.

3. Merry’s Mud Pottery House

You will have a merry time at Merry’s Mud House. This cozy business is brimming with handmade pottery from Merry herself and local artists. There is additional artwork like jewelry, paintings, and more sprinkled throughout. The ambiance in Merry’s Mud House is so tranquil and relaxing you’ll want to stay all day. It’s the ideal spot to find an artistic souvenir and enjoy a cup of jo and a baked chocolate chip cookie.

4. The Bell Collection

Photo Via: The Bell Collection

You’ll be the belle of the ball with a jewelry piece from The Bell Collection! The Bell Collection was opened in Round Rock by jeweler John, who made his first jewelry bell after seeing it done with a larger bell at a gem show. He thought it would be a great idea to make wearable bells. The idea took off and expanded into a full-time business. The Bell Collection has grown exponentially and now ships out hundreds of bells weekly to nationwide customers. Each bell is crafted with care and comes with a unique story card to brighten customers’ days. You can order a bell online or call 800-225-4210 to make an appointment at their storefront and get a behind the scene tour of the bell factory.

5. High Country Market and Gastropub

A gas station with cake and wine? Count us in! This inconspicuously hip spot is truly a surprise. Inside they have hundreds of wines to choose from and craft beers on tap. Their menu has elevated cuisine and savory snacks. They have hearty sandwiches, flavorful breakfast tacos, and stacked burgers. They also have something for your sweet tooth with cake options like Carrot Cake, Chocolate Mouse, Italian Cream, and Red Velvet!

6. Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl and Grill

Put on your scuba gear! It’s time to bowl under the sea at Uncle Buck’s Fish Bowl and Grill inside Round Rock’s Bass Pro Shop. Every detail in this space is curated to make you feel underwater. From the lighting to the ocean creatures, it really feels like you’re bowling in the big blue. You can bowl a perfect 300-game, chow down on island-themed cuisine, and play the night away in their arcade area.

If we had to choose one meal for the rest of our life, it would be breakfast. Give us an over-easy egg, a slab of bacon, and a pile of hash browns, and we are content. If you’re a fellow breakfast and brunch lover, you’re in the right spot. We embarked on a foodie escapade and found cozy breakfast nooks scattered throughout our city! Gather your brunch bunch and head to these heavenly spots for the best meal of the day.

Papi’s Pies

Brace your taste buds because Papi’s Pies isn’t just about their famous cherry pie – they’ve got an arsenal of breakfast and brunch delights you’ll love! They have lush quiches, Frittatas, Salteñas, and irresistible Crêpes. If you’re craving a sweet, try their homemade Chocolate Croissants or Liège waffles. They are open Wednesday-Sunday from 9 am-3 pm, so stop by for a scrumptious surprise!

Urban Eat.Drink

Add a splash of color to your plate with avocado toast with grape tomatoes and grapefruit Brûlée from Urban Eat. Drink! They also have a fresh Eggs Benedict, Banana Bread French Toast, and comforting Biscuits & Gravy. Jam out to the (egg)straordinary live music while you eat in the sunroom! Brunch is served on Weekends 9 am-3 pm, so join the tasty foodie celebration!

Cafe Java

Our love language is “Breakfast all day!” At Cafe Java, they keep the bacon simmering and the eggs scrambled from sunrise to sundown! Cafe Java is a popular local spot, so be prepared for a wait if you go during prime hours. Once seated, glance over their extensive menu for classics like a western omelet or stack of pancakes. If you want to spice it up, try Phillip’s awesome bacon cheeseburger omelet, it’s delectable. Pair your meal with a gourmet coffee; they have loads of java, like the Davinci Royale with flavored syrup and a tower of whipped cream!

Kerbey Lane Cafe

Once upon a griddle, Kerbey Lane Cafe started in a small house in central Austin. What began from humble beginnings has expanded into a Texas pancake empire with locations across the state. Kerbey Lane sculps fluffy pancake masterpieces, and they even have gluten-free and vegan options. Along with the best pancakes around, they have specialty French toast and savory options. We have our eye on the Lemon Poppy Seed French Toast Platter and Baked Potato Omelet!

Finley’s

Did someone say $5 mimosas and a $16 bucket? We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw the drink specials at Finley’s! They are not a mirage! Their brunch offerings are the real deal. Enjoy tasty Chicken and Waffles, Texas Brisket Hash, and brunch libations on weekends from 11 am-2 pm. They make brunch dreams come true at Finley’s!

The Ruby Hotel

Hold onto your breakfast spoons, and dig into a delicious brunch at The Ruby Hotel this weekend! They have an impressive spread from 8 am-2 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy a Blueberry Protein Bowl, Steak and Eggs, Huevos Divorciados, or an American Breakfast. Top it off with some bubbly and order a carafe of mimosas or a Ruby’s Bloody Mary and listen to live music while you dine. Time to turn your morning into a party!

Waffle Love

There is a big debate out there…. Pancakes or waffles? If you’re on team waffle, Waffle Love is the spot for you. They have a crush on waffles, and they put time and care into their grid-patterned wonders! They have sweet and savory options like the Chicken Avocado Tartine and their Breakfast Sammy or order the delectable Churro Dream and Nutella Love waffle. Get ready to be swept off your feet at Waffle Love!

If brunch is on the docket for your weekend plans, Jack Allen’s Kitchen is the place to go. They have a special weekend brunch until 3 pm. Prepare to dine in style with a choice of boozy companions – from the classic bloody mary and mimosas to the alluring Peach Ginger Bellini. Don’t get us started on the food! We’re talking Barbacoa Eggs Benedict, Chicken & Biscuits, South Texas Green Chile Pork Poutine, and of course, the timeless brunch item– Avocado Toast.

Whiskey Cake

Confession time: who else is guilty of eating cake for breakfast? Or is it just our shameless indulgence? If you’re a fellow AM cake crusader, order a slice of the famous whiskey cake at Whiskey Cake! If you want to be more practical, they have a hearty Farmhouse Benedict, Croque Madame-it, or Farmshuka Eggs. Pair it with a fresh juice like the Hulk with cucumber, basil, pineapple, lemon, local honey, and soda. Cake or classic, they have all the options at Whiskey Cake!

First watch- Day Time Cafe

Watch out for First Watch; this place is the mecca for breakfast aficionados! They have all the breakfast staples like Avocado Toast, Steel-Cut Oatmeal, Omelets, and Benedict’s galore. Our stomach is growling for the Elevated Egg Sandwich with bacon, egg, gruyere cheese, avocado, mayo, and lemon-dressed arugula on a brioche bun. Yum!

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya! Get ready for a brunch feast at the Cork & Barrel every Sunday from 10 am-3 pm. They have quite the spread with choices like Steak and Eggs, Corned Beef Hash Bowl, Irish Toast, and even a Breakfast Pizza with gravy, cheese, bacon, ham, jalapenos, bell peppers, and egg!
